Aegean sea salt is obtained by trapping parts of the sea in large pools, with the water gradually evaporating under the intense sunlight. As the water moves through successive pools, the salt dissolved in the seawater crystallizes out.
Sea salt applications range from the food sector to industrial manufacturing and road maintenance.
This project explores the idea that architecture, like sea salt, is a material phenomenon - that architecture is a substance materializing from another substance.
To explore this notion, the students make architectural proposals for a salt production facility combined with a health and wellness center. Scripting, data mining, mapping, drawing, modeling and other techniques are used and documented.

Ege Deniz‘inin tuzu, denizin bir kısmının devasa havuzlara alınıp suyun yoğun güneş ışığı altında yavaş yavaş buharlaşması sonucunda elde edilir. Su birbirini takip eden havuzların birinden diğerine geçerken deniz suyunda çözülmüş olarak bulunan tuz kristalleşir.
Deniz tuzu, gıda sektöründen sanayi üretimine ve yol bakım işlerine kadar uzanan bir kullanım alanı vardır. Bu proje, mimarinin deniz tuzu gibi maddi bir olgu olduğu; mimarinin de başka bir özden meydana gelen bir madde olduğu düşüncesine odaklanır.
Bu düşünceyi incelemek için öğrenciler bir sağlık ve wellness-merkeziyle kombine bir tuz üretim tesisinin mimarisiyle ilgili önerilerde bulunacaktır. Bu kapsamda scripting, datamining, haritalama, çizim, model oluşturma ve diğer teknikler kullanılacak ve belgelenecektir.
